David Livermore is targeting a return to the Championship after joining Micky Adams' Albion evolution.

Utility player Livermore has signed for the Seagulls on a free transfer following two seasons with Premier League new boys Hull City.

The capture of the 28-year-old former Millwall captain, revealed on www.theargus.co.uk yesterday afternoon, brings the number of signings made by Adams to four since his reappointment as manager in May.

Livermore, who has agreed a two-year contract, joins Adam Virgo, Kevin McLeod and Colin Hawkins as players with experience at Championship clubs.

Livermore said: "I met Micky Adams a few weeks back and liked what he had to say.

"I played against Brighton last season for Oldham on loan and I was impressed. They finished seventh and I think we can build on that.

"I think it is a club that is moving in the right direction and can get back into the Championship."

Livermore has tasted success in League One before with Millwall and the Londoner is looking for a repeat.

"I had two seasons in League One with Millwall," he said. "In the first we made the play-offs and then we won the title under Mark McGhee.

It would be fantastic to do that again. I know the division, even though I haven't played in it much for for a few seasons.

"I had a bit of a taste of it again last season with Oldham for two months and I know it's tough. You only have to look at Leicester, who have come down."

Livermore fits in with Adams' policy of adding versatility and experience to the squad as Albion prepare to tackle potential promotion rivals like his old club Leicester.

Adams said: "I see him as a midfield player really, but he can play leftback and left-sided centre back if we need him to.

"He's got Championship experience and played for Hull last year in a team that got promoted.

"He's 28 and I felt we had a gap in that age group between more experience and youngsters. We have tried to fill it with the likes of Livermore, McLeod and Virgo."

Further additions are expected to both Albion's playing and backroom staff, with former midfielder Darren Currie still high on their list of targets.

Gary Hart, Kerry Mayo and Paul Reid, all released by Albion at the end of last season, continue to take part in pre-season training with the Seagulls.

They could figure in next week's mini-tour of the Republic of Ireland, although Adams said: "All three of them are talking to other clubs."

Couldn't agree more Dave, next season is looking very promising

Totally agree. Quality manager making quality signings. Things are definately looking better then they did 3 months ago. I don't think DW would have been so clever in the transfer market.

At least now we are acually SIGNING players. Not doing the half-wit thing and loaning them from other clubs!

I think Dick Knight needs to be applauded as well. He made a very brave decision to fire Dean Wilkins and we are now looking a much more ambitious and stronger side. Roll on next season where I am sure we will be challenging for an automatic position.

Isnt it strange.... only a month or so ago all these people slating Dick Knight and the club for their 'treatment' of Dean Wilkins. Now there are nothing but positive comments about Micky and his signings.
Just goes to show that sometimes the supporter DOESN'T know better and that they should start to put their faith in Dick and the board. After all, when have they NOT tried to do their best for the club?!
Perhaps some of you out there should think first before slating them in future - they obviously had plans afoot which had they made us all aware of may not have come to fruition.
Show some faith and put your efforts into supporting the club rather than finding something to moan about or pick fault in.
The average supporter is starting to follow the bad example of the press and to find the worst in someone and something rather try to be positive about things that happen.
Keep the faith, UP THE ALBION!!

In all fairness Paul, I still don't like DK, but I've always rated MA. Never said anything bad about MA, his tactics, ambition etc, think he is a quality manager and will take us places. Maybe DK does get a rough ride at times, sometimes deserved, sometimes not, but what do you expect? Football is a very passionate thing for alot of people, you want everyone to have the same view? spouting off the same old "saviour" stories? Rubbish, and now you have made me put the first negative post on here in the last couple of days. . . .I hope you're happy!
I'm still in a good mood though, and I'm just leaving work too, today keeps getting better

I see that Steven Gillespie has handed in a transfer request at Cheltenham, following a bid of £350,000, with possible add-ons of a further £50,000 (which they have rejected),from "another League One club"... Has the splendid Mr Bloom been opening his wallet again? Sounds like Mr Gillespie is interested in whoever it is - here's hoping!!

He didn't ever say that. That is a complete myth.

are we really lookin to sign Jay Jay Okocha?? thats a rumour i heard? he would fill the withdean and then Falmer put together! probaly wont still be playing when we move to Falmer though.

What a laugh, DK suddenly realises that the stadium will be a non starter if the crowds at Withdean drop any further and the only way to bring them back is a quick return to the championship. Now he's the new messiah with a cunning plan.. oh, do behave..

Good luck Micky Adams, glad to see you back. Championship here we come!!!

The ‘Readers comment’s’ part of The Argus website is in danger of wrecking my marriage. My wife is constantly suspicious of what I am doing on the web. Imagine the disappointment and shock she felt when she realised that the content which makes me writhe in mirth is in fact comments on The Albion, the much maligned DK and the board…. and not pornography!
Keep writing everyone it is sheer brilliant entertainment and I love it! Here’s to an exciting season ahead and some more gems from the ‘Readers’
