Arsonists behind church blaze

Arsonists are thought to be behind a blaze at a church in the early hours.

Fire and rescue services received reports of smoke pouring from the Lighthouse Communities Church in Fishersgate at about 3.40am on Saturday.

Altogether four crews attended the blaze at the single storey building in St Aubyns Road.

The fire, which started in the roof space, was quickly extinguished. It destroyed 10 % of the roof.

Police are treating the incident as suspicious and scenes of crime officers were at the church today (Saturday) to investigate possible causes. Anyone with information about this incident should contact Sussex Police on 0845 6070999.
