Albion face two Championship clubs

Micky Adams is looking forward to testing his new look Albion side against two clubs with sights on the Premier League.

The Seagulls will host Championship outfits Charlton Athletic and Ipswich Town as the most eye-catching fixtures in their pre-season programme.

Both visiting sides will be expected to feature in the play-off race next term.

The Seagulls could still have a trip away from Brighton as they build up for League One action on Saturday, August 9.

Adams, who started his second stint as manager this time last week, said: "The pre-season schedule was in place before I got here but I'm happy with the quality of opposition we will be playing against."

Asked about his plans for a training trip he said: "It could still happen. It may be at the beginning of pre-season or a couple of days away a bit later on.

"If it's at the beginning of pre-season there could be a game in there somewhere but I'm working on a few things."

Charlton come to Withdean on Saturday, July 26, and Ipswich visit on the following Tuesday evening.

Like last summer, Albion will round-off pre-season with a trip to League Two opponents seven days before the competitive season starts. This time they go to newly-relegated Luton Town, scene of a 2-1 away win in April.

The customary round of visits to Sussex clubs kicks off with the traditional curtain raiser at Worthing on Saturday, July 12.

There is also a venture just across the county border to meet Charlie Oatway's Havant and Waterlooville.

ALBION'S FRIENDLY SCHEDULE July 12: Worthing (a) 3pm.

15: Bognor Regis Town (a) 7.45pm.

16: Burgess Hill Town (a) 7.45pm.

19: Lewes (a) 3pm.

22: Havant & Waterlooville (a) 7.45pm.

26: Charlton Athletic (h) 3pm.

29: Ipswich Town (h) 7.45pm.

30: Selsey (a) 7.30pm.

Aug 2: Luton Town (a) 3pm.

What do you think of Albion's list of friendlies?.

The match against Lewis doesn't look like a good idea as they only have 4 players at the moment. I can't see how games against Bognor, Havant, Selsey and Burgess Hill will help - hardly Div 1 quality. I am pleased to see we are facing ambitious teams in Charlton and Ipswich. These matches will of course provide Mr Adams with a wonderful opportunity to meet the respective chairmen and furnish them with copies of his latest CV for use if they do start badly and BHA are top of the table at the end of October.

Is this Lewis Hamilton, Leona Lewis? Inspector Lewis, Lewis Collins, John Lewis? we're playing? or Lewes?

Wow... thats a depressing outlook isn't it? Of course, they could be thinking that its best not to run our players ragged as soon as they return from pre-season by playing all top sides. By starting slower it surely allows the team to ease back in to match fitness before testing ourself against the higher quality Championship opposition. Personally, I think its a good programme. I may be wrong though. It happens.

Disapointed not to be playing Crawley Town and/or Eastbourne Borourgh, as these are the teams they could be facing in the FA cup.

It was OK...until the last minute! I knew there would be no living with you now. I daresay you will be budgeting for a run at Champions League glory already in 2011, although I am personally confident Leeds will get their comeuppence at Wembley next week.

So how come you are a Leeds fan living in Hove?

Oh dear J .. are you one of these people that think that you should never move away from your home town ? Work and wife means I'm here .....

I thought you said we'd lose last night ... we were by far the better side unlike the first leg .. but the game isn't over until the last whistle :-) I doubt we will get back into the Champions League by 2021 ! but we will be there one day ....

I thought of all the bitter Seagulls fans when the winner went in :-)

No. I have lived in London, New York, E Europe and I just got back from Africa. But I was born in Brighton and I grew up in Hove so I will always be an Albion fan. I was just asking a question. Glad to hear you are not just another glory seeker - Growing up I was pretty much the only one in my school (in Hove) who actually followed the local team (apart from that year we got to the cup final).

Pre-season matches are more about fitness and confidence and that's why all teams play 'lesser' opposition.

You'd imagine Charlton and Ipswich fans thinking why are we playing Brighton, hardly testing us for the season ahead in the Championship.

Again fitness and confidence.

KK how about you keep your opinions to yourself?! this is for seagulls fans so run along little boy. I'd rather you did go up so we would have a league without the corrupt leeds team try to spoil the end of the season again.

Lets face it, it doesnt matter if Leeds do go up or stay down, they will still completely over spend the money they dont have on players rather than settling debts and that t**t Bates will still be in charge laughing his arse off at the FA

Come on instead of moaning all the time cant we as albion fans look up on things for once. We have had a succesful season and we have a new and ambitous manager. Our club is on the up. UP THE ALBION!!!!!!!!!!!

yet another person who doesn't know the facts. The FL could have sorted it in Sept/Oct. Anyway we accepted our punishment and got on with it hence being at Wembley. How did it spoil your season, you finished a distant 7th. Or were you hoping like Dean Wilkins that you'd get into the playoffs in 7th if Leeds got their points back ??? I suppose if we did go up we wouldn't be able to outclass you at Withedean :-)

er...or maybe Leeds could have sorted it out by waiting until the close season before going into administration instead of doing such an altogether sly thing in the first place.

Or even better, preventing any legal comeback whatsoever by not cooking the books in the first place!

And I would certainly call into question your assertion that "we accepted our punishment and got on with it". Your club did anything but accept the punishment. First it went public with his disgust at the punishment (the type of which the directors of course knew there was already a clear precedent for). Then it hired expensive lawyers, who analysed every aspect of a judgement which others had long abided by. Then the club went to court, and the way in which the case dragged on meant uncertainty for all concerned.

kk - stop playing the your victim and martyr card/s.

This matter couldn't have been sorted out earlier cause that fat beardy tw4t running your club thought he was above the law. Despite signing a contract saying he wouldn't argue the points deduction.

Your team broke the rules and arbitration judged the penatly to be fair.

The only way this could have been sorted would be if Bates had admitted his short comings. End of.

And, the fact that you support a club with bigger resources and a large following makes your opinions no more important than anybody elses.

And for your reference we weren't out classed by Leeds, you got lucky, very lucky. Perhaps you should have attended the game then you would have know this!! Call your self a supporter!?

Personally I hope you go up, then at least you won't have an excuse to whinge on this website about being the victim!

Jog on you northern scumbag.

Noticed how you omitted to comment about Dean Wilkins wanting to get into playoffs from 7th place. Yes Leeds bent the rules like every other club does in someway or other and if you don't believe that you are a mug. Leeds raised the whole thing in Sept, it took the threat of a writ for the FL to go to arbitration. Leeds stated they would accept any decision from arbitration, which they did. So in your land of perfection you would be quite happy for your club to go bust and your directors not to make every effort to save the club. Shame we bought Beeney off you ... if we hadn't you'd be bust now ...

Two things:
firstly, it says Micky Adams "new look" side. Has he made lots of signings that I haven't noticed, or are wo going to be sponsored by a High Street clothing retailer?

And secondly, I couldn't give a monkey's what happens to Leeds. It's just down to what the Albion can do next season, which I await with hopeful anticipation.

KK "we accepted our punishment and got on with it" - Really? I thought the appeal against the ruling lasted virtually the whole season? Congrats on getting to Wembley though, even though Leeds aren't my favourite club they played really well last night and after the 15 point deduction fully deserve to be there.

Smiler ... thanks for your kind words. We did ask for arbitration in Sept so the FL dragged their heels. Still we probably deserved the 15pts deduction so c'est la vie. Good luck next season unless it affects Leeds !

Apart from people on here getting sucked by that Leeds fan I have to say it confuses me how people seem to complain about everything the Albion do. It's a decent pre-season line up and hopefully Mickey will get some good new players into the squad. I am very hopeful for next season, I think we will be able to put away poorer teams and slightly improve on our record against the top sides. 4th or 5th is a good aim me thinks!

the only true winner here is Brian Owen (journalist who penned this piece). They must be queueing up in the Argus office to write something...anything that is even remotely related to the Albion, as it is a sure fire way of ensuring your article remains the most widely read item on the on line edition.

Strong words my Mexican friend. Your vitriol would be better spent castigating the fair weather fans of Brigthon. How come you can't sell out your ground in a city of 250K with no other FL club in the county ? Oh apart from when Leeds turn up ! Instead of moaning on here you could be digging up the ground for Falmer :-)

Kind of tiring now - a Leeds fan talking down the Albion at every opportunity ... on a Brighton based local paper's online edition no less. There must be some Northern based website where you and your ilk can reminice about the Hovis Ad, your chairman cheeting and fleecing the league of any dignity and your star players beating up members of its minority communities.

Posted by: kk, Hove on 4:46pm Fri 16 May 08
Some fantastic comments here. Good to see that there's still lots of people in Brighton with stereotypical views of the north and I thought Brighton was so enlightened. you are very sad if you think most Leeds fans were happy to see "our star players beating people up" ... would be good if you could come out with something apart from the usual boring statements. I'm still waiting for someone to distance themselves from Dean Wilkins pathetic comments how it would be good if Leeds got their points back so that Brighton could get into the playoffs even thought they were a distant 7th ...

Whatever.....can the Argus stop using that grotesque "tongue" picture of MA? It makes me feel unwell and doesn't do him or the club any favours. It's going to be even harder to cope with next season after we've lost a couple of matches.

The article surely has drummed up a mass of replies. My 12 year old daughter now knows that I am not the only sad Brighton fan and that there are others from other teams who wish they had such an open forum. Anyway, off on holiday to Hawaii for 3 weeks, but rest assured I will continue to read on from distant shores. Up the Albion.

Welcome to another thread poisoned by responses to kk. I know we all have a right to free speech etc,but isn't it time we Brighton fans focussed on Albion matters and ignore his posts. It's clear that there is nothing he likes better than to wind us up for a barrage of responses. So Georgie Worst, Sancho et al, let's ignore him & enjoy imagining him sitting by his computer in his Leeds scarf with nothing to do because he's being ignored. Ha Ha. And before anyone else wastes a post, I realise the irony that I'm doing the same thing. Let me be the last.

All Leeds fans should talk to their heydays goalkeeper Gary Sprake. Do a google search if you dont follow.Leeds are not worth hatinng tho, they are a nothing club and like Charlton, even their rivals hate someone else.. Have it. Up the Albion.
