Sussex look at talented bowling duo
Sussex are giving a trial to one of South Africa's emerging bowlers.
Left-arm seamer Lonwabo Tsotsobe will play for the second team in a three-day match against Derbyshire at Derby today and boasts a high-class domestic record.
The 24-year-old has taken 114 wickets at 21.94 for Eastern Province and was recently named their player of the year after taking 39 wickets last season.
Second team coach Mark Davis said: "We're always looking at potential future overseas or even Kolpak signings and this is a good opportunity to look at him.
"I was back home in the winter and saw him play. He's got a good record and decent stats and is quite highly regarded in South Africa."
Tsotsobe was recently named in South Africa's emerging players squad and is in England playing club cricket for Knypersley in the North Staffordshire and South Cheshire League. He has taken 13 wickets in four games, including a five-for on Saturday.
The second-team attack today will also include 26-year-old Jamaican fast bowler Andy Richardson.
Opening bowler Richardson has taken 94 first-class wickets at 25.29 and is also playing club cricket here this summer.
Davis added: "Andy is another player we have got our eye on and it will be interesting to see how they do and how they get on around our squad."

Great news if mark has seen him perform and rates him have a ,they look good figures and the same with richardson on top of that there opening bowlers hopefully they will impress enough to get more games.

Thank you, Mr Talbot, for this heart warming news. While not wishing to appear an old nit picker, I should point out that young Lopsy Tsotsobe has indeed taken many of his wickets on a higher stage, with Warriors, rather than their nursery club Eastern Province. I believe that Mr Davis, by this signing, has proved himself to be a highly intelligent student of the game able to recognise the best available talent while the Philistines around him fail to recognise a true star in the making. One hopes, naturally, that Mr Richardson is a success also.

Also someone on the Sussex boards suggested a young Zimbabwean Ian Nicholson bowling in the Yorkshire leagues. I have seen him bowl and he looked pretty quick to me. May also be worth a trial, although we may need to be quick as Derbyshire are rumoured to be looking at him.

If we sign Tsotsobe and Richardson then with Aga,Harris and Collymore having been signed that will be five players signed to replace Rana!
Surely if we sign these two it will spell the end for Collymore, Kirtley and Lewry who aren't exactly setting the world alight at present.
So much for not going down the Kolpak route and giving English players a chance! We could end up with four Kolpaks and an overseas player! Are we Northants or Leicestershire in disguise?
If we sign Tsotsobe and Richardson then with Aga,Harris and Collymore having been signed that will be five players signed to replace Rana!

Probably a sensible move considering Collymore, Lewry and Kirtley can't buy a wicket at the moment.
It doesn't though say a lot about the bowlers already at the club or coming through the Academy!

Well Mr No more Kolpaks, maybe he was a bit silly to say that but I doubt he was looking in a crystal ball at the time. If he had known that there would be hardly an English born seamer in this country then he may have put it slightly differently. Anyway, as you are such a smartie, you tell us where we can find a couple of true blue top class English quicks and I doubt you'll have to buy a pint again in the next 5 years.

I wish that this country had a shed load of young fast bowlers but if there not there in the present the only alternative is the kolpack route it is upto the counties and the coaching staff to work in schools from a young age to retify this situation.So counties will have to go the kolpack route till this done,like it or not.
