Wilson thrilled as Eastbourne Borough promoted
Boss Garry Wilson admitted it was mission accomplished after Eastbourne Borough clinched promotion to Blue Square premier after victory in the play-off final.
Borough had to withstand intense pressure for the majority of the game before late goals from Nathan Crabb and Paul Armstrong saw them defeat Hampton and Richmond 2-0 at Stevenage.
Wilson took over at Priory Lane together with assistant Nick Greenwood nine years ago when the club was in the County League and is now looking forward to mixing it with some of the games big names.
He said: "I'm absolutely delighted for everyone at the club, especially all the people who have been here a lot longer than me.
"When I came in we said we would take the club to the Conference premier and it was a brilliant feeling to have delivered on that promise.
"When we took over we were playing in front of 30 fans some weeks but we can now look forward to playing the likes of Wrexham, Mansfield and York next season.
"What we have achieved probably won't fully sink in for a little while but it is the best moment of my career without a doubt."
Chairman Len Smith praised Wilson and Greenwood for the transformation they have performed at the club and believes they can make them a force in the Blue Square premier.
He said: "Garry and Nick have worked wonders at this club and I think they can take us a lot further.
"It is going to be tough next season as we will probably stay part-time but I am confident that our management team is good enough to establish the club in the Blue Square premier."
Send your messages of congratulation to Borough

Boro UR the late late KINGS!! Maybe we can offer Steve King (who watched the match with his ex-Lewes players from the stand) a job as chief scout or Director of Football to bring in some additional quality players - but we need to keep the squad and management team together for their 'never say die' attitude which kept us going against a very good Hampton & Richmond side.

Congratulations to Eastbourne - three teams in Sussex in the Conference - amazing. Pity all the strife at Lewes but it just proves stability work. Good luck for next season.

It is scary to think that, in theory, the Albion could be playing Lewes and Eastbourne in about 15 months time!

Many, Many Congratulations to Eastbourne Borough.
The players and staff deserve much praise.
But, my sincere congrats also go to Len Smith and his admin staff >>>> Having watched from a distance the progression under Len's drive and belief and his canny management of a community club, to acheive Conference status is a remarkable feat.
May you continue to go from strength to strength and one day, who knows, a place in the third tier of Footy?
Well done Len >>>>> Martin Waner

Compare Lewes and Eastbourne to the financial setup of many of the established BS clubs and perhaps thinking either will waltz through the division to league status is a bit fanciful. Look at Crawley. Still, it's good to see Sussex clubs doing well.

Steve King lives in Eastbourne and took the trouble to be at the game with a number of his ex-Lewes players - do you think that was just for a night out in Stevenage?!! As for your put-down about surviving, Histon and Salisbury have made a pretty good job of staying up there with the 'big boys' and Boro have a better commercial set-up and ground than either of those as well as a catchment area of around 200,000. OK pal?!!

Long trip to Stevenage, but well worth it with a gr8 late, late show. Hook and the steady defence of Jenkins, Pullan and Austin were our real heroes. Bring on the big boys to Priory Lane.

Fantastico! Roll on the Big Mean Red Machine!
I waved at Steven King, who was in the stands with half-a-dozen of the Lewes players who would jump at the joining Eastbourne Borough. Maybe Eastbourne Marina-based King will also be joining the staff at Priory Lane.

A brilliant night last night. Not always pretty but a great second half and a fabulous result. Can I just make a mention about the conduct of the H&R players last night who applauded the eastbourne fans after the game who in return showed great respect to the players. A fantastic night for Eastbourne and Non league football. Well done lads, Gary, Nick and all involved. A great season, a brilliant Finale.

No one at Boro or Lewes is under any illusion that it will be easy, however both clubs are there on merit. With the Albion completely becalmed in Div 1 and the farcical ticket situation, Sussex now has 3 conference clubs where you can see good players play decent football at a fraction of the cost without having to book. It's only a matter of time before one of these 3 get a big backer and get promoted into the league. Hanging on the the glory days is a habit that needs changing. These days teams tend to be where they are for a reason and Brighton's are well documented. Take time to visit these clubs and you'll have your eyes opened!

All the grounds you mention are better than Withdean in terms of character and viewing experience for fans. Whats the clubhouse like at Withdean, a few tins underneath the scaffolding perhaps?

It's only a matter of time before one of these 3 get a big backer and get promoted into the league. Hanging on the the glory days is a habit that needs changing. These days teams tend to be where they are for a reason and Brighton's are well documented. Take time to visit these clubs and you'll have your eyes opened!
i always visit the teams i post about eastbourne or shall i say langney sports ihave seen more games there than most of you glory jumpers,it is run and cash supported by a out of date club house. king should not only be offerd a job but be given the managers job.he won the league and if you think brighton will ever play eastbourne,in a league match dream on,wait until about november you will all be screeming for your manager,s head.you have a great ground but not enough support,it cost a lot of dosh to play in that league.still i hope you can survive as you deserve your chance.your ground is better than lewes but not as good as crawleys, and when falmer is built your ground will not get noware near it,the sussex county will revert to playing the senior cup to falmer. you insult me but you wear rose tinted specks mate.next may 2009 both you and lewes bottom 2
On the assumption that you are a BHA fan are you seriously critising other peoples football grounds?! All the grounds you mention are better than Withdean in terms of character and viewing experience for fans. Whats the clubhouse like at Withdean, a few tins underneath the scaffolding perhaps?

Steve King lives in Eastbourne and took the trouble to be at the game with a number of his ex-Lewes players - do you think that was just for a night out in Stevenage?!! As for your put-down about surviving, Histon and Salisbury have made a pretty good job of staying up there with the 'big boys' and Boro have a better commercial set-up and ground than either of those as well as a catchment area of around 200,000. OK pal?!![/quote] Tommy, there are no great clubs in the conference only once was's or new climbers.
