Big freeze on the way - Met Office

Snow is expected to carpet parts of Sussex tomorrow as the big freeze takes hold.

The Met Office today issued a severe weather warning, with up to 3in of snow expected to settle in parts of Sussex by Sunday lunchtime.

Dipping temperatures, biting winds, snow and hail has already made for one of the dreariest Easter weekends on record.

Forecasters now say there is a 60 per cent risk of "a severe event" affecting Brighton and Hove and West Sussex, with East Sussex less likely to be affected.

Disruption to transport networks has been predicted and local sporting programmes are expected to be decimated.

* How have you been affected by the weather? Tell us below.

It has affected me. I had to wear gloves and a hat today yet recently, despite being winter I haven't had to.

"Decimated" is not the word to use.

It's always cold at Easter. I don't know why they can't just abolish it.

So what a few bits of snow - its been lovely where I am with the sun out most of the day. If we do have snow it wont last for long once the sun comes out, I dont know what all the fuss is about we never have a lot of snow in Sussex, now when I lived in Oxford we had 6 foot drifts - Thats snow!

WHY do people here always talk about the weather? Surely it is inevitable and changing all the time. It IS England. Not Miami or the equator. Deal with it!
Posted by: dave, Brighton on 11:50pm Sat 22 Mar 08
Its because we are English that we do talk about the weather, its part of our culture and if you are lucky enough to become a citizan you will need to keep up with us English, the weather, fish and chips, pie and mash and the Queen - Its what makes us English people English.

Typical council. It promises snow, and then there isn't any.

They have probably spent the snow budget on jollies for themselves in the sun.

DECIMATED?
Are they kidding? Decimation is what God did to the earth when he flooded it for 40 days and 40 nights, or what Hitler did to the Jewish population of Germany in the 1940s. Never before have the Argus used a word SO incorrectly. Ashamed.

East Brighton is snowy - or was before I drove to Newhaven where we have had blizzards but nothing settled here. Yet! Great fun for the kids who were toboganning around last night and throwing snowballs. Good, old-fashioned fun. Wish I could play and get away with it at my age!

Yeah. probably sunning themselves in Spain, getting the pints in at 60 p a time and filling up their cars with petrol that costs just 75 p a litre.

I've had a thought, maybe if the council are banning balloons, maybe they've also banned snow?
