BNP defeated in Sussex poll
Voters celebrated last night as the British National Party failed in its latest bid to get a councillor elected in Sussex.
Despite coming third out of three, its candidate in a district council by-election in Yapton still secured almost 20 per cent of the vote and missed the runner-up spot by seven votes.
BNP candidate Albert Bodle, who runs the Selwood Lodge guest house, in Victoria Drive, Bognor, got 205 votes in the Arun District Council poll.
Second was Liberal Democrat David Jones with 212 votes while Conservative Emma Neno won the seat to become the ward councillor with 620 votes.
Coun Neno, 30, now the youngest member of the council, said she was relieved that the BNP did not get in and that she wanted to do her best to represent her community.
She said: "I'm delighted. We put a lot of work in and obviously are pleased with the result.
"We did a lot of knocking on people's doors and talking to a lot of residents rather than just putting leaflets through the door.
"I'm really looking forward to representing the residents on Arun District Council."
Fellow Conservative ward councillor Stephen Haymes congratulated Coun Neno and said: "As I am a Conservative with her, I'm delighted to keep the ward fully Conservative."
Coun Haymes said he was relieved the BNP did not get in as their supporters had come out in force.
He added: "The turnout was very low and the weather was partly to blame alongside the time of year.
"It was too early. It was the BNP, they forced the election."
He said the major parties on the council were happy to let the seat, recently resigned by Dr Christopher Forrester, vacant until the next round of local elections.
Meanwhile the BNP had success in holding a party seat in Havering Borough, in London, prompting fears the party could gain as much as five per cent in May's assembly election.
The latest attempt by the BNP for election in Sussex comes after the party fielded several candidates in last May's council's elections and a recent parish council byelection where it scored a significant percentage of the vote.
In February BNP member Donna Bailey missed out on the hotly contested Upper Beeding Parish Council seat by just 20 votes.

Well done to Albert Bodle in a first ever attempt in Yapton and even better news for the BNP in Havering where they not only held the seat but also increased their percentage of the vote.

How does the Evening Argus know voters were celebrating?
Shouldn't it read that the Conservative and Liberal Democrats
were celebrating.
The fact that the BNP can poll 20% of the vote in somewhere like Yapton should be a big worry to the three main parties.

Why is the title of this article [italic]'BNP defeated'[/italic], instead of [italic]'Lib Dems defeated'[/italic], or [italic]'Tory victory'[/italic]? Wasn't the failure of the Lib Dems cause for celebration too?
Perhaps the author is implying that the BNP is now more important than the Lib Dems. Or maybe it's just another hopelessly biased article against the BNP.

The same old claptrap from the usual marxist suspects of searchlies and uaf, who in their ignorance actually believe this was some sort of victory, it was in fact a real triumph for the BNP, this was RURAL Sussex not ethnic entrenched Barking & Dagenham.
There will no doubt be many more desperate headlines like "BNP defeated" but as they say you can fool some of the people some of the time but not all of the people all of the time. :)

My first reaction on reading those vile posts by Paul and BNP hater was report them...but then I thought, no, let others read them and see how desperate anal and uaf are becoming. In Leeds, those sorts of thugs attacked and vandalised pubs and other venues used by the BNP - the police are investigating under anti-terrorism laws. Certainly not amongst normal people who have had enough of mass immigration and PC.

People from outside of Europe are too dissimilar to integrate and we do not have room for too many Poles, Albanians etc. We indigenous Brits are indeed a racially homogeneous people, and, unless and until we have had a vote on it, would like to stay that way. I am a ex-Labour activist and supporter. I now support the BNP because of the following policies:
1) to intoduce a simplified flat rate tax system
2) to take Britain out of the EU
3) their aim to sort out the NHS and keep our hospitals clean
4) to scrap the ID Card system
5) to nationalise and invest on the railway system so that there are more trains and cheaper fares
6) To reduce our reliance on imported food
7) To restore and protect Britain's fishing zones
8) To sort out the education system and repair the damage caused by nearly 50 years of half baked schemes
9) I like their policies on crime to restore the death penalty and introduce the 'Tony Martin law' and to give drug dealers harsher prison sentences
10) I also like their policies on British arts and culture areas that succesive Labour and Tory governments have ignored.

I now support the BNP because of the following policies: 1) to intoduce a simplified flat rate tax system 2) to take Britain out of the EU 3) their aim to sort out the NHS and keep our hospitals clean 4) to scrap the ID Card system 5) to nationalise and invest on the railway system so that there are more trains and cheaper fares 6) To reduce our reliance on imported food 7) To restore and protect Britain's fishing zones 8) To sort out the education system and repair the damage caused by nearly 50 years of half baked schemes 9) I like their policies on crime to restore the death penalty and introduce the 'Tony Martin law' and to give drug dealers harsher prison sentences 10) I also like their policies on British arts and culture areas that succesive Labour and Tory governments have ignored. I was a life long Labour supporter and activist but i hate what this party has become and what it has done to this country. I am now a BNP supporter and activist. However since Labour won a second term of office and start of the Gulf war I noticed a serious erosion in peoples civil liberties in particular the ID card scheme, DNA databases etc and most recently Lord Goldsmith's proposals to strip the Irish of the right to vote in British elections. So I now perceive Labour as a nasty setup in cahoots with big business eroding civil liberties and over the Irish voting situation - I consider Labour to be an anti-irish racist party.

Unfortuately too many Labour policies play into the hands of the racists and Daily Mail readers who are just one step away from changing from Tory voters to BNP - "affirmative action" that was proposed this week being just one. Too many people think they are being victimised against and will vote BNP as a result. By the time they realise their stupidity it could be too late.

All these people saying how the BNP will never get power are clearly devoid of any history education. Nothing in life is set in stone.
